MADE WOMAN

        MADE WOMAN

I intimidate a weak man,

not with my words or my curves,

but with my accomplishments.

I have the same degrees as him,

sat in the same class as he,

Became so qualified I failed to be his secretary

Failed at playing second when I have all the qualities to be first.

I love deeply,

But I'm not desperate.

I wanna be married and have kids,

But I also want to be a provider.

I know my place in a man's world

and that's not only in his kitchen or in his bed,

I am too strong for that.

I am his rib, and bone is stronger than sand.

I love my man, and he would feel so lucky to have me.

I am a made woman,

not cos of my degrees and money in the bank,

not cos of the fact that I can make knowledgeable arguments

or that I can switch roles from the boardroom to the bedroom.

I am a made woman cos in a man's world I stand tall,

In my relationships, I ensure that my man won't for another lady, fall,

I don't make him worry about my wants cos I can satisfy them.

I would be his Beyonce, he won't have a choice but be my Jigga.

You say I'm proud cos I scare men away,

You say I'm proud cos I won't marry this or that.

I'm so made I won't settle for less.

I'm so made I ate the apple first cos man was blind to explore.

I don't scare men, unless those scared of success,

I'm not proud, for I would make a humble wife and make my man proud.

When I say I do, he would smile till his dying day,

for he didn't just get a wife,

He also got a made woman.

THE JOYS OF SELF DISCIPLINE

THE JOYS OF SELF DISCIPLINE

I know, most people would be wondering why I named this article the way I did, but be patient, read through it and you'd agree with me that there really is joy to be derived from being self disciplined. Self discipline is a term many of us make mentally when we want to get some things done, it's that inner voice that keeps pushing us to do more, to achieve, to strive and to accomplish, but do we take time to listen to that inner voice and even when we do listen, our not-so willing flesh refuses to act in the way our mind has urged us to.

Self discipline starts from within and the effects are seen without. The ability to keep promises one makes to self is the highest form of self discipline for it's only when we can keep the promises we make to ourselves, we can then try to keep the ones we make to other people.

Every year, we make resolutions, we resolve to drop some pounds, finish up on something we've been procrastinating on, avoid most of our bad habits and try to be nice to the people around us, we make many beautiful resolutions and then we get shocked when on the second day of the year we find that we're back to our old self, we've even added more pound in under 24 hours and we've shelved the stuff we're supposed to be working on, procrastinating it again till the next year's resolution. But first, what's that self discipline, I'm rattling about? I call it that invincible magic within us that make us want to achieve, make us want to sacrifice the present pleasures for a future good, self discipline is that determination to keep at it, regardless of the distractions within and around us, the determination to ensure that we keep to deadlines and not keep asking for extra hours to finish what we're supposed to have finished two hours ago. Exercising self-discipline can make the difference between an averagely talented person doing something amazing with their lives and a naturally talented person realizing very little of their potential. Self-discipline makes you happier; it gives you that sense of real achievement earned through sheer intensity of sustained focus. If you really want to succeed at a task, then self discipline is essential.

Now, self discipline don't just apply to tasks we need to get done, it also applies to habits we need to change, improve or stop altogether. We all have various forms of addiction; drugs, sex, porn, video games, the internet, laziness (yes, laziness is also an addiction, hell, it's even the foundation of all the other addictions), etc...you can add your own addictions, but we're all guilty to one or two or all of these addictions and we need self discipline to combat this. The question now is what do you do with your free time? Do you spend it improving yourself or you spend it indulging yourself in something foolish? Yeah, I know most of us have the mindset to just live for the moment, saying life is short, and they would want to get all the fun they could possibly get, but let me break it to you, all that fun ain't good for you if you don't know how to manage it or control yourself while indulging in it. Life isn't some waiting room in which to 'kill time' with repetitive self-amusements. Self-discipline, like a muscle, can be developed. If we were raised in a disciplined environment, we may find it easier to be self-disciplined, but we can all develop more. Celebrities have never been more visible in our culture. Famous sportspeople, wonderful actors, and musicians are all over the media. But what we don't see are the thousands of hours of super-focused work these people have put in behind the scenes.

It's easy to feel that success comes easily; that it's just a question of self-belief. But anyone who has achieved anything has done so because they've been able to control and direct their own inner lives and actions to the extent that has enabled them to become super-able at what they do.
It's really not easy to be self disciplined, I won't lie and tell you it is, but the truth is that, it really is possible to be self disciplined. Nothing good comes easy, the tortoise only makes progress when its head sticks out, stick yourself out from the lazy crowd, be productive,  be disciplined enough to make impact, don't settle for good when you can do better, don't sit down burning calories on your couch when you can go work out, go get that task you've been procrastinating on, it's really not as hard as you think. Always make it a point of duty to finish whatever you start, never stop half way. Every morning, get up (yes do, please get up!) and tell yourself: "Today is not over until I have done..." – whatever you need to do that day. Literally, you can't finish your day until what you set out to do has been done. I'm not kidding. Respect yourself enough to keep your own promises to yourself.

At the end of the day, when you look back to see that you really accomplished something you set out to do that day, you won't just go to bed tired, you'd also feel happy enough to set another task for the next day and then the day after that, lighting the world with your energy and leaving a mark.

I AM TRAYVON

                  I AM TRAYVON

By now you already know the verdict,
Zimmerman walks free.
Stay away from Zimmerman's street,
else you'd end up on injustice tree.
I am Trayvon
what was my crime?
The white man said I was black
That I had my hoodie on,
He also said I wrestled with him.
He had a gun, and I was just 17.

You are Trayvon,
the system don't have justice for you.
You're Trayvon,
five white women found my killer innocent.
He claimed self defense,
I attacked him with the color of my skin
and he blocked my attack with gunshots.

My family weeps
as my dreams are permanently gone under the hoodie of injustice,
America, my America....
I am Trayvon,
I didn't choose to be black, God made me so.
I didn't choose to be killed, Zimmerman made that choice.
I know you weep for me,
wipe your tears, put on a hoodie,
Yes I was shot,
yes I was killed,
but I live.
Zimmerman May have shot me,
but he dies daily in his conscience.

A WOMAN DIFFERENT

A WOMAN DIFFERENT

She is a mother,
a sister,
a wife,
a friend.
She's God's answer to man's question,
she reminds you daily to count your blessings.
24hours are never enough to show her love,
she encourages, motivates and inspires.

No you won't see her trying to front.
you'd feel it when she loves.
She has just few words,
her actions do all the talking.
No, she won't tell you she's given up on men,
yes she's been hurt, but that makes her strong.
Yes, her heart has been broken,
but with the pieces she still wanna try.

***** WHAT'S YOUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS? *****

-->
 ***** WHAT'S YOUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS? *****

Two days ago, I logged on to my Facebook page and was surprised at the number of friend requests I got. A 105 friend requests from complete strangers, most were people that must have read one of my poems, articles and short stories on some of the groups I wrote on and others were mutual friends to the friends already on my page. Now, having that deluge of friend requests was not what surprised me. What really surprised me was that none of the people were Africans. There were mostly Americans and a few British folks. I started to wonder where my Nigerian brothers and sisters were. Now, that's not the basis for this piece.

Social networking sites are not places we just log into to ogle at pictures and like or post comments, it's also a place where friendships are made and cultures and beliefs are exchanged. Social Networks has brought along with it many bridges to the wide berth that separates Africa from Asia and The Americas from Europe. Since we can easily make friends on these Social Networking sites, what holds us back from having relationships as well? Isn't it the norm for lovers to first start as friends? Why then are we boxing up our feelings by not giving in to that desire to get to know that person behind your screen that makes you feel special?
The best friends I've made in all of my 25 years were folks I met online, I've never met them in person but they've touched my life in ways my next door neighbor has not even gotten close to. Sometimes, I wonder what is it then that holds most people back from having online relationships. Is it the bad stories you've heard or the bitter experiences you've had?
Some'd say African men are aggressive, Nigerian men are scam artists, Africans are back ward, African ladies are this and that and all Africans need online relationships for is to get a Green card, and now, I want to categorically say that all those assumptions are wrong!!!! You can't pass judgment on a whole race just because of what the media has fed you with or on what your friends might have told you. When you have bias towards everything, even matters that concerns the heart, then you really are not ready for love. I'm no advocate for just online relationships; I'm only just pissed at how biased people tend to be towards online relationships.

Last night, I was going through my news feed when I came across this beautiful picture of a man kissing this lovely woman, then I looked below the picture and read the short story that explained how the couple met. They met online on one of those pages that's populated mostly by those single ladies and gents that would sit in the comfort of their homes, trading bad stories about why interracial relationships are not good, or why long distance relationships are bad and would never work, but when I looked at the picture last night, I laughed at hundreds of people that liked the picture and the many more hundreds that congratulated the couple. Every one of those people that commented failed to mention that only 3 months ago, they were the same people advising the lady in the picture to shun away from African men professing love to them over the internet. The couple met 8 months ago and with TRUST, COMPROMISE AND COMMUNICATION, she risked her comfort by making the 13 hours flight to go see her Romeo and now, they are engaged and would be getting married in June.
Now, tell me. What are those things that make you wary about online long distance relationships?

* Is it the need to feel that physical touch of a lover? You are SINGLE, tell me who is touching you or who you are touching.

* Is it the stories your friends must have told you about bitter experiences? Now, you know yourself that nothing spreads faster than bad news, are you going to base your happiness on hearsays or personal experiences? All relationships have their good and bad times, learn to also seek out good news of the couples that made it work and don't just sit on your behind, saying 'online relationships are not for me because of what this and that said.

* Is it the need for communication? One thing you must know is that online relationships are for serious minded adults. Fact that you are 25 or 50 doesn’t really make you an adult. Would you rather be in a relationship with that man/woman who you can't have a normal conversation with? Statistics says 3 in 10 relationships now start online and with the rate at which technological advancements are creeping up on us, you really have no excuse not to be able to keep your communication going. By communication, I'm not talking about just poking and liking someone's pictures and comments or following them all over twitter as if they knew where they were even going. Communication has gone way beyond that. Any of you ever heard of whatsapp messenger? That's what I use when I see someone I really want to be close to, that way, I get to put a voice to the pretty face on Face book and also get to know if they are for real, and there are always phone calls, Skype, voxer and oovoo. You really have no excuse at not being able to communicate with someone you really like. You can also spice up your communication, there's still letter writing. I know we are gradually forgetting how to write letters but how did you feel in high school when you read or wrote a love letter to and from someone you had feelings for? Relive that moment.

* Is it the time difference and expensive long distance calls? Now, that's where compromise and sacrifice comes in. You can't put a price tag on love and if you really are serious about getting to know this person, you can both work out a schedule that'd be okay for you two to chat and get to know each other better. Make it as point to call that person at least once in a week as your finances would allow.

* Are your friends the reason? I know it sounds funny when you try explaining to your friends that you've met someone online that you are really having feelings for. They might look at you as strange or maybe in need of some counseling to want to have a relationship with someone you've never even met. Now one question for you. Are those your friends in relationships themselves? It's always the single people that give reasons on why you should never try being in an online relationship. Now, are you going to let your friends determine your happiness by letting them box in your feelings? Love is one feeling that you can't suppress no matter how hard you try. It's like trying to hold your breath for 5 minutes.

* All African men are scam artists, aggressive, unfaithful and African women are backward, all they want is a green card? Are you for real? When's the last time you made friends with African folks and found out that they weren't way brighter than the bad brush that's been used to paint them? One thing you must know about Africans is that they love their families and treat their women with respect. An African man would never abandon his kids. I know I won't. Another thing you should also know is that the modern day African is not polygamous; the 'baby mama' syndrome has not found its way to our shores. I can categorically say Africans love better than most of you have been led to believe. You really need to stop with the stereotype, Africa may have her own problems, like every other continent, but one thing you must know is that many Africans are happy staying at home, but would give up the world to go meet with someone they are in love with, no matter where that person is. That's one of the reasons why most African men would prefer the woman travels down to Africa. We've been abused for so long. If a man decides to travel to the US to go meet with someone he loves, why must it seem that he's just travelling because he wants to have a green card? He can't travel for love?

*  Would you want to be with someone far away that desperately want to be with you or would you just remain single waiting on that next door neighbour to notice you? He/she just wants casual sex, but that man/woman that's far away, wants more than just that. You two can make arrangements on how best to meet and then take off from there.

Now, tell me, WHAT'S YOUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS?
Are you married? Good for you.
Are you engaged? Wishing you all the best.
Are you in a relationship? Now, that's one giant step, you need to have the courage to take the last two steps.
Are you single? Now, this post is for you. What's holding you back? Past experiences or things your friends said?

WHAT HE WANTS

WHAT HE WANTS

Oftentimes, I just wonder what it is with some women that make them not to have long lasting relationships especially when they've gotten a good man. Everyman, no matter how accomplished he is, always wants a companion by his side, someone to support and encourage him, someone to love him and someone to clean his tears when he does cry. Every man needs a WOMAN, just as every woman needs a MAN and she must not always be his mother. Now, a man is always moved by what he sees, that's why society ascribes that men tend to be more unfaithful than women. Now, ladies, you know a man is always moved by what he sees, what is it that stops you from maintaining that image he had of you when he first met you? You were classy once, sexual and romantic too. Has marriage and the long relationship robbed you of all that? Reclaim your old YOU!!! Make him ogle at you again, remind him of that old feeling when all he wanted to see was you...... HOME IS WHERE I AM

HOME IS WHERE I AM

Nothing's better than family warmth,
put all the world's wood in your fire place,it'd surely drive out the cold, but won't replace what can't be bought:
Laughter, tears, memories and aromas
from mama's kitchen.
Looking at the pictures on the walls,
journeying back to childhood,
where innocence wrapped her arms around you...
And mama was your best friend.

Every picture tells a story...
Oops, that's when I lost my front teeth.
That's me and my brother..*dabs a tear
that's me and my daddy....*looks away.
And now, that's my mama...looking resplendent...
See my sisters too, they looked so tiny behind this glass.

Mama says food's ready,
now, I know that noise was my stomach rumbling and not the music from my phone.
Home is where you can eat whatever and however you want.
Home is where you can eat and forget about some table manners.
Home is where meals on the dinner table end with stories of the past and promises of the future.
Home is the vault of secrets, laughter, love and tears.

Put another wood in the fire.
Drive away the cold,
but don't interrupt family warmth.
No matter how far you are,
no matter how long you've been away,
home is where your heart really is.
Home is where your mother waits.
Home is where your woman, your wife waits with a heart that holds you.
Home is where your kids are never ashamed to call you dad or mom.

Home is where I now am.

THE GIRLFRIEND, THE WIFE

Yeah, I know they could be the same,
but one can make a team,
and the other just wants the game.
One is gentle, the other always wanna scream.

The girlfriend judges a man by the size of his pocket,
the wife adds to the size.
The girlfriend is content being a babymama,
the wife insists on a ring for her finger and must be called wife.

The wife turns a house to a home,
the girlfriend drives you out of your own house.
The girlfriend is so insecure
the wife, is so sure.
That girlfriend would judge everything you do.
Your wife already knows you.

Miles may separate you from your wife,
but she's never far from your heart.
Miles away from the girlfriend don't matter,
cos she's never been in your heart.

The girlfriend always wanna eatout,
the wife wants you to eat at home.
There're girlfriends on every street,
but only one wife in every home.
The girlfriend don't care about your happiness,
in taking care of your happiness, the wife stays happy, cos she knows you'd do the same.

No, the wife would submit to her husband,
the girlfriend always wanna be the man.
The wife calls her man husband,
to the girlfriend,he's just a baby daddy.
Every goodwife was once a bad girlfriend,
not every d girlfriend wanna be a wife.

DISCLAIMER: This is not directed to anybody, I know some people would always wanna criticize and say this is not a general picture. Yes, there are good girlfriends and bad wives, but this is what separates a good wife from the bad girlfriend.

THE IDEAL WOMAN

Check out more in my new book: click on the link - https://www.createspace.com/4024126?ref=1147694&utm_id=6026

The Ideal Woman

She doesn't go out looking,
but like diamonds, she's found by a man who's done some searching.
She puts nothing before her family
yet creates time to help the sick and lonely.

she treats motherhood as a gift
and not as something one gets as thrift.
She doesn't spend hours in front of the mirror, confirming her looks,
but spends time, improving herself with good books.

She won't open her legs to every man who calls her beautiful,
she'd give her heart to the one that's good and truthful.
To her kids, she's the best mother
and to the world, a fort in any stormy weather.

She makes her house a home
and her loving'd quell her man's decision to roam.
She don't need no clock to know the time,
cos to her being late is a crime.

No, you won't find her among women that gossip,
she works 9-5 and, loves her family and earns her keep.
She's more than a noun, she's a verb,
she's the one you read about in the book of proverb.

Some Ideal women raise their kids alone
cos some foolish man's heart's turned to stone.
She's not afraid to cry when she's sad
cos every tear counts when things start to go bad.

You see her on the streets, greeting everyone with a smile,
as she remembers when with her man, she walked down the aisle.
She's the woman everybody talks about,
the same one her man can't do without.

Her kids are always proud to talk about her...
Her man keeps a picture of her, even in his car.
She never in anger, raises her voice
cos sometimes in silence, you make your choice.

She's on facebook, behind my screen,
no, not the one laughing, the one with a grin.
She always remembers your birthday
cos if she's your friend, you're blessed in every way.

There're more than 10 ideal women on my page,
oh, they're all beautiful too, regardless of the age.
Every ideal woman deserves a good man,
every good man gets an ideal woman.

LETTER TO MY KIDS: Part 1

LETTER TO MY KIDS: Part 1

Dear Kids (Jason, Jane & Beyonce),

This is your daddy, Stanley Anukege. You can see me but I can't see ya'll yet cos I'm yet to meet your mother. It's the 13th of November and it's only 10:49pm and daddy's bored and looking at the skies, looking out for comets and just wanted to talk to you guys.

Now, I don't know who'd come first, second or third (don't tell your mum,but I 'd love for all of you to come at once or you can just come in pairs), but however ya'll decide to come, me and your mum'd love you as God loves me. Now, Jason, you need to know before you come down here that you MUST respect a woman, never hit her cos I'd never hit your mom. You also need to know that I waited long before I had sex and your mom's the only woman I'd ever love and she's gonna be my sole woman till God takes me or her. You should also never plan on being a baby daddy, just strive to be a good man and enjoy being called 'DAD' by your kids and kids by ONE woman.

Now, Jane, go get your sister Beyonce. I wanna speak to you two. I want ya'll to know that there are many men down here that never treats a woman right. There are many single mothers raising their families alone, but don't fret, I'd have a gun by the time you're both teenagers and would shoot any guy that tries to get you pregnant, unless he's put a ring on your finger and is ready to be a father. And again, your mum and I'd show you guys how marriage should be like.
I know you'd be both beautiful cos as I sit here looking up at stars, I know your mum'd be one beautiful woman and daddy aint so bad looking either. Many guys would tell you that you're as beautiful as their mums, but don't listen to them, their mums aint that fine, they all wanna get between your legs. But don't worry, Daddy's got a gun and the bible.
Your mum'd teach you girls how to cook and how to pray and daddy'd ensure that you go to good schools and become good women in the society.
I don't want you shaking your booty(close ur ears, that's not a word you should use) in any music video.

Now, kids, when ya'll come down here, we're all gonna be one happy family, we'd have a dog too and it'd have 3 names...ha..ha..
So many things I've got to tell you guys but Daddy's listening to some slow songs by some ladies called Jill Scott, Celine Dion and Adele (some day, ya'll would also get to listen to them) that's making him sleepy, some other night, I'd write ya'll another letter.
Now, Jason, hold your sisters, ya'll should go meet God, tell Him your dad's going through some hard times but he's gonna pull through by His grace. Don't forget to pray for your mum too.
When God takes one of daddy's ribs, ya'll should get ready cos it'd be time for one of you or all of you to come down here.
Some other time, kids.

Love.

Daddy

THEY KILLED MY DREAM BEFORE I WOKE UP

THEY KILLED MY DREAM BEFORE I WOKE UP

Night has come again,
I've lighted my candle....
I want to read, and the heat won't let me.
The president promised us fresh air,
now all we do is live in fear.
In this heat and darkness,
I can still dream.

So many evils holding us down,
Why must a few play with our future?
Every morning, I wake with a frown,
for a new day in Nigeria is starting to feel like torture.
But, still, I must wake.
I must shoot the leaders with my pen.
On every page and with every word,
I must get my country back.

No, drop your guns,
we're not at war.
Remove the barriers that divide us
let's bring our country back from hell's door.
Pick up your pens, put on your shoes!!
Let's storm their palaces
let's tear down the walls of hardship they've built around us.
Let's hit the streets with one voice,
telling them they only got one choice:
give us back our Nigeria,

Nigeria was beautiful once.
Now scars have marked her face.
She cries every night when her kids pray to God for a change.
Every new administration has raped her so bad she can barely stand.
Where are my brothers?
Where are my sisters?
Nigeria calls, let's obey.
She wails every night a child dies
and every morning our rights are abused.

Corruption has torn her clothes,
leaving her naked for the world to see.
Her breasts were full once,
now the milk of tomorrow has been sucked dry.
Oh!! She was rich too...
She had oils, she had fertile lands, she had precious minerals.
Now, a few control her wealth, leaving her children to go to bed with empty stomachs.

When I was 3, I'd look at her in my daddy's picture,
she was beautiful...like my mother.
Now at 25, she's so grotesque because of all the abuse she's been through.
The world says her children are the happiest.
Well, when you suffer and smile,
people tend to think you're happy.

In my dream for a new Nigeria,
I heard gun shots and bombs going off.
I smelt fear as her kids carried placards
and matched towards the military guns.
I saw her too...smiling through her pain,
cos she knew that soon, she'd have her beauty back.
Then, I woke up...with a bullet hole in my chest and a new Nigeria in my bed.
I looked at her and smiled.

WHERE DO YOU MEET YOUR MEN?

WHERE DO YOU MEET YOUR MEN?

Just last night while I was chatting with one of my Facebook friends, I was struck with how much struggles a woman goes through in raising her child(ren) alone without the presence or contribution from the baby’s daddy. Now, I know this malaise is very prevalent in the black community where most children grow up in homes where the mothers played dual roles as father and mother, wrapped in one, but still that is no excuse for any man to also want to do it to another woman. I may not know the reasons why most men would behave like this, but one thing I do know, is that it is only in the animal world that the males abandon their young in the care of the mothers and even in the animal world, there are some species, like the penguin where child rearing is done by both parents.

We are humans, wise enough to know the difference between good, bad and depraved, and abandoning our own child, whom we help bring into the world, is nothing less than depraved.

Now, I should not judge, but some women are to blame for the kind of men they end up with, or rather, the kind of men they allow into their bodies to knock them up. There used to be a time when the best place to find a good man was in churches, but that was a very long time ago, cos right now, even in churches, we tend to meet the worse kind of people. I do know the church is a home for sinners, seeking God, but it should also be a place where we ought to meet the right kind of people. Remember when older folks would regale us with stories of how they met their partners in church? The woman was always in the choir and the man was either a deacon or a strong Christian brother. Those days, marriages were the order of the day and they were marked in anniversaries and not in child supports and meetings with divorce lawyers or marriage counselors. Those days, fathers always wanted to take the sons fishing, or play ball and mothers taught the girls how to sew and cook and the family all went to the parks on weekend. How did we lose this? Where did the good men go? Where did the wise virtuous women go? Have we let the society influence us? Must we keep on missing the kind of lives our grandparents lived instead of building on the strong foundation stones they laid for us?

We all have challenges in our lives, but whatever challenge we got, it’s never as big as raising kids alone, with no support whatsoever from one of both parents. Now, women, where do you meet your man? In the club, on the street, in church, on a dating site, or through blind dates? No matter where you met him, how did you present yourself? Did you make yourself cheap? When a man sees a woman as cheap, easy and accessible, he tends to think she’s just there for the pleasure and nothing else and when she’s foolish enough to get pregnant, he treats her like a whore and that’s when he realizes that she may have also been sleeping with other men and starts to deny his seed. Ladies, condoms are cheap, he may be so broke like his morals to get one, but you must always have a pack of rubber with you, especially if you know you attract the wrong kind of men, there are many cheap birth control methods out there, learn to use them, and if you’re so dumb, have someone teach you or go get a manual on how to tell a man to put on a condom. No matter how you think you love a man, never trap him with a child. Never think that if you get pregnant for him, he would want to stay with you.

Don’t be so fast to have sex with a man you’ve just met, you never know his intentions, he may have called you beautiful, bought you gifts, but he don’t own your body, unless you give him power to. I know accepting his gifts would make you wanna pay him back with sex, but for God’s sake, don’t give in if having a child is what you have planned, because he might not be ready and no matter what you say or do, he’d keep avoiding the consequences of his actions.

Ladies, you ought to be careful the kind of men you discuss your problems with. If you are attached to an abusive man, and you decide to go discussing your problem with another man, it’s your funeral. We live in a society where we know our various rights and its fool hardy when you think discussing it with another man, will not make him take advantage of your situation there are qualified and certified people that went to college for that, they are called counselors. I know some women would want to have a sorrowful story as their pickup lines to trap a man, but you are in for a rude shock when you finally have the fool trapped. You should not give a man too much power over you; unless he has proven that, he is worth it. Unless he is your husband, not your baby daddy. In addition, even at that, he should not only be a good husband, but also a better father.

Now, to those women that have two or more kids for various men and are still raising these kids alone, even though I feel pity for you, I am still mad at you. For experience was said to be the best teacher and I wonder how many more kids you should have for different men before you learn that you are the most foolish woman around. You need counseling, you need to put your foot down and say enough is enough; you need to be in somebody’s school or in some church with a woman empowerment program. You are no baby-making machine, when God said be fruitful and multiply, He was not referring to you alone. You are a woman and should be treated with respect but you must also demand to be respected too, show him that you deserve to be respected. You must be mindful of the kind of men you let into your life and if sex is your weakness, you must learn how to have safe sex. If the man says, he don’t wanna have safe sex, just get up and pour him a bucket of hot water. He might say he wants to have a child by you, even after seeing that you already have children from other men, now, when he says that, your warning bells (for those that do have it) should start to ring, for men are like lions, they never want to start a family with another woman who already has children by another man. There are a few exceptions to this though.

Now, WOMAN, look into that mirror that shows you your beauty and your curves and tell that image that you deserve the best man because God took His time when he made you. He formed you out of some man’s rib, let him come find you, do not go seek him out. Adam woke and found eve…you would wake someday and see your Adam…till then, treat yourself to a self-discovery.

STREET LADY, SHEETS FREAK

STREET LADY, SHEETS FREAK

There she goes
On her nine to five…in her suit and plaid skirt
she’s so professional, so fine….
She doesn’t say no, when she wanna say yes
and she looks good in any dress.
That there is my lady, the street has brought out her other part.
She transforms in the sheets, when clothes go off
And fingers become the new eyes.
My freaky street lady… the woman for me.

She sends me pics during work, while I’m at my desk,
Letting me know what the night would unfold,
She sits at her board meetings
Discussing me with her inner freak.
She berates herself when the sales don’t go up
and she pats herself when she makes me go off.
The sheets is where we let go of Wall Street and Dow Jones
and reach out to sweet sex and slow tunes.
The sheet is where we come alive, soon as we dial that 69 button.

She sits on her desk, juggling phone calls and flipping through her rolodex
I’m here, looking out my corner office, also looking at my rolex.
Anticipating what waits when I meet my lady at home......

LOVE HEALED ME (MY SECOND SHORT STORY)

Love Healed Me

Being blind is not something, anybody wished to be, but Hadiza felt she was lucky to be blind. This is what she sat thinking while she waited for the bus to fill up and they’d start the 10hours journey from Lagos to Kano. With all her senses sharpened; she heard the insect trying to get out, as it kept hitting the windows, looking for a way out… she could also perceive the different smells the park offered; cheap perfumes, smell of gas, and the various foodstuffs hawkers shoved in your faces to ensure you got a whiff of what you’re missing if you didn’t buy what they’re selling. Too many sounds, so many languages…looked like its Pentecost all over again, it won’t be a surprise if Peter stands up again to assure us that all these people are not drunk, but are seized by the Holy Spirit, she thought to herself. So many languages and I admire people who know how to speak more than one language, just like the Nigerian interpreter at the South African embassy that said he could speak six international languages just because she told him she admired the way he spoke Bantu. Would Nigerian pidgin be considered an international language? She thought, smiling to herself, remembering how her dad always ensured that her and her siblings spoke Queens English while they were young, but somehow, pidgin always found its way to their conversation.

‘’Is this seat taken, Miss?’’, ‘’No, it’s not’’ Hadiza said, collecting her tote bag from the seat next to her, she was also impressed with the powerful cologne her seat mate was wearing. She’s always had weakness for a nice smell; her olfaction was just so intense. So intense was it that she didn’t know when she said ‘’you smell nice’’…that must make him think I’m coming on to him, she  thought ruefully to herself after he didn’t respond, she was grateful that at least he didn’t hear her or that maybe, he was just uncultured. The bus eased out of the park 20minutes later, and she was sure the bus was already filled, for she could hear people starting to settle in for the long trip and she was sure the sun was already somewhere behind the clouds. Her mom always worried about her travelling at night, sometimes forgetting that Hadiza was even blind to see what happened around her. Tales abound of how accidents happened at night due to drivers who sometimes fell asleep on the wheel  and also about  robbery attacks which were so rife during night trips, she remembered an earlier experience where her bus was attacked by robbers who disposed passengers of their phones and cash, but when they got to her and found out that she was blind, one of them murmured to himself how beautiful she was and how vulnerable she looked with her big black Ray Ban shades, he just went on to the next occupant, leaving her to her fears and when everything was over and the journey continued, she heard some people wishing they were blind…how funny it was, thinking about that now, but she made a silent prayer that this trip should be as peaceful as the  many others she’d had.

Obinna squirmed out of his jacket as he reclined on his seat, staring at the beautiful woman that sat beside him. He was taken aback when he heard her say; ‘’you smell nice’’. Right now, smelling nice was the least of his worries, today had been one very challenging day for him; he took the first flight to Lagos that morning, hoping to close a deal with one of their promising clients, only to discover that a rival firm had already sealed the deal. He spent hours trying to convince the client that his company still had the best offers, and having failed on that front, he decided that taking the long trip home, as opposed to the 45minutes flight, was one way of slowing what’d surely come, when he gets to Kano and had to face his boss. To make matters worse, he also found out that his seat mate, wasn’t only just beautiful and classy, she was also blind, and he prided himself in not saying ‘’thank you’’ to her compliment, so that she wouldn’t think he planned on taking advantage of her situation.

His friend, Dele, picked out the Calvin Klein perfume for him, saying that Obinna needed to smell nice, that sometimes, how we smell determined the kind of people we met and for once, he agreed with Dele. He made a mental note to thank Dele when next they met, as he settled in, wishing he was blind, maybe his boss won’t be that mad at him, tomorrow.

Thirty minutes into the trip, Hadiza being so sentient, especially around men, felt her uncultured ‘nice smelling’ seat mate all over her, wanting to adjust this and that, trying to make her comfortable, ‘was he trying to make her feel handicapped? She thought as she….” Hello, I can do that myself, thank you”, she rebuked him as, he tried reclining her seat. “My bad, I just wanted to make you feel comfortable”, he said, wondering why some handicapped people were so irritable, just like the physically challenged man he sat with sometime ago on a Delta flight from Orlando to New York, who had stumps for legs, but still insisted on having the aisle seat, just so he could stretch his legs or ‘stumps’. Little did he know that the beautiful woman beside him never saw herself as handicapped, but ‘handicappable’. Trying to douse the flames, Hadiza reached over and whispered, “Don’t sulk, I just don’t like being taken advantage of, especially by strangers’, wondering why she’d think like that, she added, “even though you’re uncultured, you do smell nice”. “At first, I didn’t hear that, so that’s why I didn’t say thanks”, Obinna lied and then, “My name is Obinna”, he said, sitting up to face her. “Mine’s Hadiza”….”and I’m from Kano”, she added. Then an awkward silence and Obinna sat up again and asks, “What took you to Lagos? I don’t mean to pry, but I’d just love to know and I hope whatever brought you here was better than what brought me”.  Hadiza smiled, as she settled into her seat, wondering where to start her story, for she knew this man wasn’t just interested in what brought her to Lagos, but also every other thing about her, but she decided she’d just let him ask her himself. People always believed every ‘handicappable’ person had a story to tell. “I came to apply for a South African visa to go study”, she said this with the same pride she’s always shown when she started to tell people about her dream of helping other blind people feel the impact of the light they can’t see. Impressed by this, Obinna decided to ask another, but it didn’t turn out to be a question in the way he’d have wanted….’ You do know how beautiful you are, right?’ he immediately felt foolish after this and “Sorry, I shouldn’t have asked that”. “It’s okay; I do know how beautiful I am. When I was younger, I always wished to be in a pageant when I grew up, then, I use to preen in front of the mirror”. She said this with nostalgia as she sat back and turned her face to the window, wishing she could see the scenery they were passing. Yesterday made it 14 years that she became blind, though she’s gotten accustomed to her situation, she still hoped that someday, like her optician promised, she’d get to see again. Deciding to break the ice, he now went on to compliment her dress sense, especially the watch she wore, and he wondered how she could tell the time because even with his eyes, he couldn’t tell the time from looking at it, he also wondered what her story was and he’d rather swallow his tongue than blurt out another foolish question.

“You still haven’t told me what brought you to Lagos”, she said, jolting him out of his thoughts. ‘Oh, you don’t want to know’. ‘I want to’, she said, as she brought out the blanket and draped them over her legs, for the mosquitoes were starting to buzz. Marveling at how coordinated she was, Obinna knew instantly that this beautiful woman had learnt more from life than the letterings on her braille.

Now, at the outskirts of Lagos, he’d told her  about the business deal that brought him to Lagos and how unsuccessful it went and why he decided to use the bus, instead of a flight and how lucky he was to have made that decision for if he’d taken the flight, he wouldn’t have met her. But he didn’t tell her the last part. He was also impressed at how good a listener she was, for she only chipped in politely to ask questions, but for the most part, she was just quiet while he spoke, which reminded him of the parrot of a girl that was now his ex. And after encouraging him that all was not lost, Hadiza told him her story.

EXCERPT FROM MY NEW NOVEL: SOAKED PILLOWS

SOAKED PILLOWS

She watched him leave; still playing the words he’d just said in her head, it seemed like a nightmare, but it’s so hot in the afternoon to be having nightmares, pinching herself the second time, she knew this was really happening, the man she’d loved was walking away from her, into the arms of another.  She just couldn’t believe that a flame that had been burning for five years could suddenly be extinguished. Sean was her first, he unlocked her passions and every day with him was a discovery. Watching him leave was the last thing she ever thought would happen. What happened between last night and this afternoon that made him realize that she wasn’t the best for him? He was the best man for her, the only man for her, even.  Last night, he took me to the clouds and today, he’s sent me down to hell with just three words: “I want out”.

Lunch break had not been something she delighted in, she was called a bee because of how she immersed herself into whatever job she was doing, no matter how unimportant, but when Sean called and asked if she could meet him at the Italian bistro 3 blocks away, she cleared her desk, stuffed her panties in her desk drawer and touched up her face, for she knew how Sean always was, he’d make love in a church if everybody closed their eyes for long. Sean was one of those rare men that gave love making a meaning that would make even porn stars green with envy. He could take a woman to orgasm in 2 minutes if given the chance…all he needed was a place. On her way down the elevator, she hoped people wouldn’t notice that she wasn’t wearing panties… she was wet in anticipation for she knew nothing Italian would be eaten at the Italian bistro…..

WHAT A REAL WOMAN WANTS

WHAT A REAL WOMAN WANTS

Now, you know it won’t be fair to talk about what a real man wants without also letting the guys know what a real woman wants, right? Well, yesterday, while I posted ‘What a Real Man Wants’, I started thinking, what does a woman wants? Now, not just any woman, but a real woman. I may not be the right person to say or tell what a real woman wants, but I could still tell the fellas what it is that woman wants that you just have to find out and ensure you do to bring out that woman in her.

There are five things I can say a real woman wants, but before I go on to state them, I wanna make clarifications that a real woman is not that woman you have on the side, just for the sex. She’s the one you plan on settling down with as a wife, she’s the one that you plan on making the mother of your kids, she’s the one that’s gone through hell and high water to bring out that man in you.

A woman is not really as convoluted as most men would think, she may appear all intelligent, sexy and beautiful, but at the core, she still needs that man that can make her feel like Eve, she needs that man that can make her forget her worries. She needs that man that can always come through as a knight, even though he has no shining armor.

Now, some women don’t even know what it is they want, because they have started to believe that whatever they’ve read in romance novels and seen on movies, is what should happen to them too, but girl, close that book, turn that TV off, and come on close to your computer screen and find out if this is what you really want. I had to ask one of my friends and here’s what she had to say:

‘’What a REAL WOMAN wants is LOVE!!! Period... LOVE is a many splendored thing!! LOVE will make you say YES!!! When all she hears is NO??!!! LOVE will open the door to whatever lies ahead!! LOVE will communicate her needs to others and her MAN will want to do that... There's a lot that can go into LOVE it’s not always sexual’’ – Renee Fesson Anthony

Now, to those five things a real woman wants in and from a man and what distinguishes a man that’s serious from that man that just wants you for the sex.

Words

Now, when I say words, I don’t mean just about any word, but the right words. You do know men are visual creatures, right? Well, ladies are also turned on by what they hear, so dudes, you need to step up your game and go read some books, show your woman how intelligent you are, now, don’t just rely on your words, back them up with action too. Since love is a verb, words play a major role in defining the actions that verb demands.

Right Touch

This is something that can’t be over emphasized; every relationship falls apart when this is neglected. And when I say touch, I know what’s running through your minds, but dude, that’s not all I’m referring to. Yeah, you need to be able to take her to that realm with your fingers, but not all touch should lead to sex. There are times when she needs for you to just touch her heart, do all those little things that matter. Never neglect the little things, they are what make or mar a relationship. Wake her up in the morning with a kiss and send her to bed with a smile….

Honesty

Now, any relationship that is not built on honesty is surely bound to hit the rocks. Dudes, I know how you wanna shield your woman from the truth and yeah, the truth is always bitter, but would you rather drink lies sweet juice, only to throw it up later? And at all times, the bitter truth is always the best drink. I know you may be scared of losing her with the truth, but when you have her with your lies, what do you think would happen when she finds out the truth? Dude, you need to let her know what the truth is and if she won’t stay with you cos of that, then, she’s gonna settle for a boy and not a real man.

Honesty pays, dude…

Emotional Maturity

Even if this applies to what a man needs from a real woman, dudes, you need to know that a real woman also needs for you to be emotionally matured. A woman is beautiful, you need to know that beauty is more than the looks and you need to understand that before you came into her life, she had a life of her own and she also had a past. You don’t expect her to let go of the past just cos she’s now met you.

A woman wants a man who can let her feel secure, a man that’s not afraid to show how he feels for her. A woman needs that man that’s not ashamed to show her off, a man that always keeps his promise.

Now, some women may be in an online relationship, or she may be in a long distance relationship, but one thing you should know, dude, is that, even though you may have not physically met that woman you’re dating online, or the distance between you two is so vast, you need to know that you also have to show her how emotionally matured you are. She may have gone through issues that she feels you can get her out of, so, dude, you need to step up to that plate and let her know that you’re for real.

Communication

This is one vital part of every relationship. It is the cement that binds all the bricks of relationship wall together. Now, the real woman wants that man that can communicate in a level that surpasses just word of mouth. When you can communicate, you make her feel like she has your attention and you best believe that when you have that woman’s attention, love’s bound to kick in.  Our words and in the way they are conveyed plays a major part in our relationship and sometimes, when words fail us, understanding kicks in, there are times when all she wants is a man that’d only listen. Communication is also about listening, you must know that she doesn’t want you talking all the time, you need to learn to listen to, a man that listens is bound to get that real woman. Now, I know some dudes might think that when you keep listening to your woman talk, that gives her the image that you’re weak, but dude, that aint true. How do you think she’d think of you if all you do is talk?

Make out time to let her know every time you get how you’re missing her, how you love her, give her little surprises. You don’t know what she might be going through at work and sometimes, she needs a message from you, with your goofy face or you can just call and let her know that all’d be well. These little gestures, goes a long way, dude.

So, dudes, you need to have all of these points on hand when you meet that real woman, but most importantly, you have to be yourself too. When you meet that real woman and she can see and feel that you got all these points covered, then dude, you really won’t be missing much, cos she’s gonna make a real man out of you.

Being A Virgin

     Being A Virgin

Yeah, I know it sounds crazy,
A guy at 25...
Biding his time....
Who took yours, who stole yours...
You gave it as a gift...
Or got someone's as a reward?

Some say there's a myth,
That a bond is formed,
When your heat swallows my meat.
I don't know bout bonds,
Don't know bout love either.
You may have lost yours at 9 or 50.
Are you with the recipient of your gift?

You touch my heart
With one of cupid's dart,
you'd take my gift
and give my world a face-lift...
Being a virgin don't make me sick
But it kinda makes me slick.
I've been called names,
Cos I don't have a girl...
Being in love and lovin,is no game,
I still wanna be caught in the whirl.

It's so rare at this age
to find one whose phallus or cherry is still caged.
A world of beauty and diverse pleasures
So tempting,I wanna wet this treasure.
Loosing it is fun,
Yes, but....
With one in whose life you wanna run.

Was yours snatched?
Don't worry,
Are you with the right one?
Don't hurry.
Did you give it to the one you love?
And did that one appreciate it?
Oh! Sorry.
Now, everything seems blurry,
Could be the sun...
I need to run,
I've had so much fun...
And my sexlife is not even begun.

When I meet her......
When I do....she'd be content.....hmm....hmmm
